Antonio Conte ‘wants to axe Icardi as first move as Inter Milan boss’ as Man Utd target striker

MANCHESTER United are interested in signing Mauro Icardi with manager-in-waiting Antonio Conte set to axe the striker, according to reports in Italy.

And United are the ones who could benefit as they have been looking for a top quality striker after an underwhelming season.

Conte wants to drop Icardi amid contract drama

Gazzetta dello sport has reported that the player’s skill is not being questioned; it’s the ace’s recent contract woes that has mean he is being shown the door.

The Italian side are rumoured to want in the range of £70million for the star.

The 26-year-old then-captain was dropped from the squad this season because of his contract wrangle.

The player and his wife/agent Wanda have tried to negotiate a new deal with the Italian club but they are nowhere closer to finding a deal.

Amid the drama the Argentinian was stripped of his captaincy and the star then refused to play in the Europa League in response to the club’s actions.

No contract extension has been signed due to the tension meaning the striker’s contract ends in 2021 and United are keen to sign the player.

Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also rumoured to be interested in the ace.

Ole Gunner Solksjaer needs to bolster his squad as stars like Paul Pogba are looking to leave the club in the summer.

Icardi has scored a massive 111 goals for Inter Milan in 188 appearance for the club.

The international player has scored one goal for Argentina in eight appearances.
