ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE faces a race to be fit for Arsenal’s first game of the new season at Newcastle.
The French international striker suffered a sprained ankle during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by former club Lyon in the Emirates Cup.
He left the stadium with his left leg in a protective boot and is almost certain to miss Wednesday’s friendly in Angers and the final pre-season game in Barcelona on Sunday.
Arsenal are still waiting for the full results of a scan but are optimistic that Lacazette, 28, has not suffered serious damage.
But pictures on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Instagram story showed the Frenchman training hard to make sure he’s fit for Arsenal’s season opener.
Manager Unai Emery insisted that Lacazette was taken off after just 12 minutes of Sunday’s game purely as a precaution.
But he will not want to take any risks with the £52million striker and the week’s lay-off will place a doubt over Lacazette’s availability for the opening Premier League fixture at Newcastle on August 11.
Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac, who were omitted from Sunday’s game, are both expected to travel to northern France on Wednesday for the Angers friendly.

The duo were given the day off by Emery after they were the subject of an attempted car-jacking by knife-wielding robbers last Thursday.
It was decided that they were not in the right frame of mind to take part against Lyon after a long discussion with the manager.
But Arsenal do not want to make too much of a drama out of the incident and both players have returned to training and are scheduled to play at least part of the game in Angers.
