Arsenal vs Chelsea venue Baku’s nightclubs ‘populated by prostitutes’

Arsenal will lock horns with Chelsea in Azerbaijan capital from 8pm tonight at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

The build-up has been marred by controversy, with English fans travelling an eye-popping 2,485 miles to get to the city.

And fans seeking to stay out after the game could find themselves surrounded by criminal organisations.

In a review titled Baku Nightlife: 20 Best Bars and Nightclubs written earlier this year, one reveller says venues are swarming with prostitutes.

He writes: “Most nightclubs are populated by only men and prostitutes.

“They are dark, poorly designed and dodgy, with rarely more than 20 customers”

“Many can be found in the shabby basements of buildings around the city centre.

“They are dark, poorly designed and dodgy, with rarely more than 20 customers.

“Girls are often Russians, getting money from either dancing, companionship or sex.

“As I was there during the Grand Prix, the guys seemed to be from everywhere, with a majority from Turkey and the Middle East.”

He added venues that were not like this were found in “elite nightspots” including restaurants, lounges, hookah bars and live music cafes.

These can be “quite expensive”, he warned, adding “you may be refused entry if you are not accompanied by a woman”.

However, earlier today Daily Star Online revealed there will be plenty to do for fans after the final whistle.

Ex-Daily Mirror reporter Laure Hanna said: “There are plenty of bars and clubs in the city centre, although they can sometimes be hard to find as many are underground.

“The most popular local beer is Efes on draft, which costs about £1.50 a pint.
