The Colorado Rockies have gone from the top of the NL to the valley after an 11-3 start, but will look to build themselves up in the Mile High City on Wednesday.
German Marquez has had a strange 2020 with a few bad outliers derailing his overall numbers. He has given up three earned runs or fewer in eight of his 10 starts but had two games in which he allowed a combined 15 earned runs to balloon his ERA to 4.35 despite allowing just 0.9 home runs per nine innings.
The Rockies in general have also scuffled at home recently, scoring five runs or fewer in seven of their past nine games at Coors Field. They will look to get hot against Mike Fiers of the Oakland Athletics, who has rounded into form after a tough start to the season. He’s posted a 3.81 ERA with three runs or fewer given up in four of his past five with just two home runs allowed after giving up six in his first four starts.
Oakland has MLB’s best bullpen in terms of ERA, so it’ll be a challenge for either team to score the amount of runs typically expected in a game at elevation.
The play: Athletics-Rockies total, Under 12 runs.
