Most new cases in the capital have been linked to the Xinfandi wholesale food market. Feng Zijian, deputy director of the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, said the outbreak had been bought under control. He told state television: “By analysing the number of infections, onset of symptoms and source of infection, we can see the [outbreak] among those who had direct exposure to Xinfadi is coming to an end.
“The new cases were mostly down to community spread by those who had been exposed to the market, but the level of transmission is very low.
“The Beijing outbreak was discovered very early and the strong control measures have effectively curbed the spread of the disease.”
On Sunday, the municipal health bureau said it had increased testing capacity to one million a day.
There is however some concern over six infections that do not immediately appear linked to the market.
On Sunday, a married couple tested positive for coronavirus.
They had not visited the market, nor come into contact with anyone who had.
The wife, however, does have a job buying food from the market and delivering throughout the city.
On June 12, she visited a residential compound which has been mentioned in the histories of four other cases.

The northern city of Tianjin recorded its first cases in 110 days.
The carrier is believed to be asymptomatic and got the disease in Beijing.
Zhang Ying, deputy director of the Tianjin Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters: “The conclusion is correct and scientific.
“The most likely method of transmission was human to human but the investigation is continuing in order to find the source of infection and to rule out other possible ways of infection.”
According to South China Morning Post, the carrier is a kitchen worker who tested positive.
Close contacts, workplace and food in the kitchen showed no signs of infection.
A retest of workers then found a chef returned negative nucleic acid test but a positive serological result.
It is believed he did not travel in the two weeks before his positive result.
The coronavirus pandemic is believed to have begun in Wuhan, central China. .
