Bosch cancelled: Why has Bosch been cancelled?

Bosch is airing on Prime Video and the series follows LA police detective Harry Bosch (played by Titus Welliver). The first season was based on novels by Michael Connelly and it received positive reviews. Express.co.uk has investigated why Bosch was cancelled after the season seven approval.

Why has Bosch been cancelled?

The drama made its debut in February 2014 and the series follows Harry Bosch and his LAPD team as they attempt to catch different suspects.

Season six landed on Prime Video in April 2020 following an episode marathon and live tweet session during the coronavirus pandemic.

In February 2020 the streaming platform announced season seven would be the final season of the series, and fans showed their disappointment.

The sixth season took inspiration from Connelly’s novels The Overlook and Dark Sacred Night, and it held a 100 per cent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series has also been nominated for three Saturn Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award, so fans are wondering why it has been cancelled.

The official Bosch Twitter account shared the news and one fan said: “I am so excited that it was picked up for the seventh season; but nooooo, it can’t be the final season!!”

Another fan said: “@welliver_titus Please don’t say ‘Bosch’ and ‘final’ in the same sentence.”

An official reason for the cancellation has not been given, but it seems the story has simply run its course and it has now come to an end.

Fans were pleased to hear the series was ending on the creators’ terms, rather than being axed early by the streaming platform.

Connelly told Deadline: “I’m proud of what we have accomplished with Bosch and look forward to completing the story in season seven. It’s bittersweet, but all good things come to an end, and I am happy that we will be able to go out the way we want to.”

The final episode will be written by Connelly and the original showrunner Eric Overmyer, so fans can expect the series to go out with a bang.

Connelly praised actor Welliver for his portrayal of the titular character, saying he “will be Harry Bosch for the ages”.

Bosch was the first original drama series to air exclusively on Amazon and it has remained one of the most popular series on the streaming platform.

The final season will draw inspiration from the novels The Concrete Blonde and The Burning Room and it will see Bosch and Jerry Edgar (Jamie Hector) chase two different murder investigations.

There will be a heavy focus on white-collar crime and corruption in the final season, and fans are already excited for what is to come.

The series was produced by Fabrik Entertainment and CEO Henrik Bastin said Amazon had shown unwavering support for the series over the years.

Connelly was convinced the series will continue to live on even after it stops airing, thanks to the world of streaming, as new viewers can pick the story up at any time.

By the time season seven has come to an end it will no doubt be Amazon’s longest-running drama series, so the creators have a lot to be proud of.

As the series is due to end as planned, it will hopefully mean the ending brings closure for fans and the story will be wrapped up in a satisfying way.

There is still no official release date for season seven, but hopefully it will air sometime in 2021. Until then fans can watch all six seasons on Prime Video.

There’s not much in the way of viewing figures for Bosch, so it’s difficult to say whether the cancellation is due to a slip in viewership or another season.

The cancellation could simply be because Connelly has run out of ideas for new material, and it would not be unreasonable considering how long the series has been running for.

Fans were keen to see the series get one more season and in July 2020 one fan said on tvseriesfinale.com: “Love, love, love this show. How can you cancel one of the very best shows on tv. Please keep it going.”

Another fan said: “Please do not cancel Bosch! Just learned about this show a few months ago and have binge-watched it. Coming to the end of season six. We love, love, love it & want more! Can’t wait for season seven and hoping for a season eight!”

Sadly a season eight is not on the cards, but the creators and crew are more than happy with what has been achieved so far.
