Boy, five, hurled off Mall of America balcony by stranger regains consciousness as GoFundMe to help family hits $1 million

A FIVE-year-old boy tossed over a third floor balcony has regained consciousness – just as the GoFundMe campaign to help his family hit the $1 million mark.

Landen Hoffman is reportedly “alert and conscious” despite being thrown 40ft onto the marble floor at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, on April 12.

According to US news outlet KSMP, the youngster is no longer in a critical condition but will still require further surgery to mend his injuries.

Earlier this week, it was revealed Landen did not suffer brain damage in the shocking incident, which was feared at the time.

Family spokesman Stephen Tillitt credited the faith of the youngster’s family for his recovery saying: “All praise and glory and honour to Jesus.”

Emmanuel Aranda has been arrested on suspicion of throwing Landen from the balcony and charged with attempted murder.

The 24-year-old reportedly threw the boy off the third floor balcony after telling cops he was angry that women had been rejecting his advances at the mall.

Emergency crews called to the scene gave Landen CPR before he was taken to a nearby hospital with “serious injuries.”

Eyewitnesses said Aranda approached the Hoffman’s mother and Landen, just before allegedly picking him up and throwing him over the balcony.

Brian Johnson told WCCO: “She was screaming “Everyone pray, everyone pray. Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge.”‘

Landen Hoffmann was left in a pool of blood after plunging in front of horrified witnesses.

Thousands of well-wishers have now donated more than $1million to his distraught family on a GoFundMe page describing the youngster as “the sweetest kindest five-year-old you will ever meet”.

The heartbreaking statement continues: “His soul is soft and gentle and instantly brings a smile to everybody he meets.

“He is full of energy and life and enjoys soccer, playing with friends and family and playing hockey with his brother and sister.

“Landen has a very long road to recovery ahead of him. He suffered life threatening injuries, many people who fall from that distance aren’t as lucky to make it.”

Landen’s cousin April Hoffman has also posted a tribute to the young boy on her Instagram page.

She said: “Please pray for my cousin’s beautiful son Landen.

“A monster of a man threw him from a 3rd floor balcony at the mall, he is fighting to stay with us every second.”

The Mall of America issued a statement after the incident, saying: “This was a senseless act and words cannot truly express our profound shock and sadness.

“Our immediate and only concern is for the well-being of the family and the child, as well as for any individuals who may have witnessed the incident.

“We have counselling services available for anyone who may need assistance.”
