Thousands of homes across Britain and Ireland have plunged into darkness as the furious 80mph storm batters the country.
It barrelled into Ireland yesterday amid red warnings by the country’s Met Office and knocked out power to 10,000 homes.
And now it is ripping across the UK with gale force winds which have tripped power to more than 1,000 Brit homes.
Western Power Distribution, which operates power in the midlands, south west and Wales, said in a statement this morning: “Since early morning, South Wales has experienced high levels of outages in our network area.
“Gusting wind with rain is expected to continue throughout the day and easing early evening.
“We have been busy but we are coping and our precautionary measures are in place – our control rooms and contact centres together with our network operational staff are ramped up and additional staff have also been drafted in.
“Currently we have approximately 1,100 customers off supply with the busiest area being West Wales.
“We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will provide regular updates.”
