A powercut is believed to have left major cities in the UK in complete darkness.

A National Grid spokesman said: “We’re aware of a power cut affecting a large area of London and South East.

“We believe this is due to a failure to National Grid’s network, which is affecting our customers.”

Sets of traffic lights in London have stopped working, and some train services at King’s Cross have been suspended.

Thameslink also confirmed all of their services could be affected.
