The government weather service has issued the severe yellow warning for large parts of central and southern England.
Its warning states “some flooding of a few homes and businesses likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures”.
It also states there could be “damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes”.
The Met Office adds “there is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail” and that there could be “some short term loss of power”.
Its warning reads: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Sunday afternoon and early evening.
“Some places will miss these, but where they do occur, 20 mm rainfall is possible in less than an hour and 30-40 mm in two to three hours in one or two spots.
“Lightning and hail may be additional hazards. The showers will slowly die out through the evening.”
