The President and CEO of KGH Border Services explained the benefits of smart borders to the UK’s Brexit Committee. Dr Lars Karlsson stated that Britain should take their borders to the next level rather than building the old traditional borders like the European Union.
Dr Karlsson said: “When it comes to customs procedures, to be able to self-assess and do the work yourself, there are many traders that would want to do that.
“This brings us to the smart borders that the UK should now have, not building the old traditional borders like the European Union.
“My country Sweden did this 40 or 50 years ago, we had land borders.
“We have the Swedish and Norwegian border which is basically the smartest and fasted land border in the world, together with the North American borders.”

“You should actually take it to the next level and say ‘we want to remove everything’.
“You know who is exporting, you know who is importing, you know the transporter, you only identify that it is happening at the border.
“That can be done very simply.”
During an interview with Express.co.uk, a Conservative MP questioned the sustainability of the European Union’s model following the reaction of individual countries within the bloc during the coronavirus pandemic.
“I think that really shows that the state of the European Union isn’t necessarily sustainable in the ideologically way that perhaps some countries want moving forward.”
She continued: “We all know that the north, south, east and west of Europe are very different culturally.
“They work in different ways, they have different industries.
“I think if the EU is going to survive, major countries like Germany and France need to understand that other countries want to be more involved.”
