The man, understood to be 35, was assaulted by two other men outside a venue in the village resort of Laganas on Tuesday, last week.

When the pair of thugs set upon the bloke outside the bar they knocked the man to the ground before punching and kicking him.

Paramedics airlifted him from the island to a hospital in the Greek capital, Athens, where he is understood to be in a critical condition.

According to The Sun, the man was left with a “severe head injury”.

The publication reported that two men, aged 22 and 25, were arrested in connection with the savage attack.

A Foreign Office spokesman said the attack is being investigated.

He added: “We are assisting the family of a British man who has been hospitalised in Greece.

“We are in contact with the hospital and local authorities.”

It comes as a Brit was arrested for allegedly glassing a Spanish girl during a hen do in Magaluf last week.

Jodie Gumbley, 28, from Bradford West Yorks, was with a group who went into a cocktail bar before reportedly being taunted by a woman.

Following her arrest, Jodie was bailed but forbidden from leaving the island until she paid £4,400.

If she was found guilty the cash would go to her alleged 28-year-old victim from Madrid.

But, the money would be returned to her in full if she is cleared.
