A BRIT tourist has been left four inches SHORTER after shattering her spine on a water slide at a Majorcan holiday park.

Wannabe teacher Jennifer Proctor was suddenly thrown from a body-board on the 40mph ‘Banzai’ ride in Aqualand.

The Dunstable woman told how she suffered severe fractures and had to undergo emergency surgery to fuse her spine and insert metal rods in her body.

She now claims the shocking spine fractures and a crumbled vertebrae have left her a staggering four inches shorter.

The 25-year-old was holiday with partner Jodie Morgan when the shocking accident happened.

She told the Sun Online: “We had just arrived at the park…it was only the third ride we had been on that morning.

“Things started to go wrong pretty much as soon as I started going down the slide. Before I knew it I crashed straight into the pool below.

“I knew immediately something was seriously wrong. I was screaming at Jodie ‘I can’t swim, I can’t swim.’ which was very strange as I am a strong swimmer.”

After being treated by a doctor at the park for around two hours she was transferred to a nearby hospital – where she remained for the next six weeks.

She said: “I had my first surgery three days after I was taken into hospital. My injuries were so bad they had to fly a specialist in from the mainland.

“After the operation I discovered I was four inches shorter. When I went on holiday I was 5ft 11ins now I am just 5ft 7ins.”

News of the accident comes after British holidaymaker David Briffaut was paralysed in a freak accident at a waterpark in Benidorm.

And just a week after we told how a Brit woman lost six pints of blood after falling off a ride at the Aqualand park in Tenerife tearing her uterus.

After September’s accident Ms Proctor says she was left with no choice but to quit her job as a retail manager at Road Chef.

LIFE TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

Although she is now able to walk again she is awaiting a third surgical procedure sometime later this year and is still in a lot of pain.

Ms Proctor said: “I thought I would have the time of my life on holiday, but instead it quickly became a nightmare.

“Having to undergo surgery abroad, away from family and friends, was extremely difficult, and I feel that my life has been turned upside down by my injuries.

“I just hope that I can get the answers I am looking for as to what happened.”

Following the accident, she appointed specialist injury lawyers to probe her accident.

Virginia Zarin, the lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing Jennifer, said: “At this time of year, a lot of people are heading abroad for their Summer holiday.

“Unfortunately, in some cases the holiday doesn’t turn out as expected, and in Jennifer’s case it was totally ruined.

“Jennifer loves swimming and was absolutely devastated to learn she had sustained severe fractures to her spine.

“Her life has been completely turned upside down, and we hope that by discovering what happened we can at least get some answers that Jennifer needs to move forward.”
