In a heated row, Barnett said: “Your manifesto called this a great deal.
“It said that Boris Johnson’s new deal takes the whole UK out of the EU, out of the customs union, and enables us to pass our own laws.
“You boasted about this deal! Were you lying to yourself or your voters?”
Sir Bernard responded: “Well, the EU is talking about implementing the protocol in such a way that it divides Northern Ireland much more comprehensively from the rest of the UK – it’s about how the withdrawal agreement is applied.”

When Barnett repeatedly pointed out that Sir Bernard “signed up for this” by voting for the deal, the MP hit back.
He said: “You can score your little points on this if you want.
“Stop interrupting me for a moment. Emma, okay, do you want to finish talking and then I’ll have a go?”
Barnett argued that Sir Bernard’s position on this issue “makes no sense”.
Barnett responded: “The US are now looking into this as well.
“Do you not understand that we look like we are breaking our word and breaking international law, and potentially you lied to voters about this being a brilliant deal.”
Sir Bernard said: “Emma, you should calm down. You are making some very extreme statements.”
Barnett added: “But based on facts!”
Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove will meet EU official Maros Sefcovic in London later today to discuss how the new development could affect Ireland and the trade talks.
The EU says it wants “clarifications” on the implementation of the agreement.
