Carlo Ancelotti hits out at 'bulls***' rumours Everton are interested in signing Isco

Carlo Ancelotti hits out at ‘bulls***’ rumours Everton are interested in signing Isco despite Spaniard falling out of favour at Real Madrid

  • Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has strenuously denied reports he wants Isco
  • He managed Isco at Madrid, giving him 53 games in both his seasons at the club
  • James Rodriguez has impressed since signing from the Bernabeu this summer

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has trashed rumours he is interested in signing Real Madrid’s Isco in the January transfer window.

Ancelotti worked with Isco at Real Madrid from 2013-2015, with the skilful attacking midfielder playing 53 times in both seasons, underlining how valued he was to the manager.

But Ancelotti firmly denied speculation he was looking for a reunion at Everton, despite Isco falling out of favour in the Spanish capital under Zinedine Zidane.

He told DIRECTV Sports Co: ‘It is not true that I am behind Isco.

‘We haven’t started thinking about the team for the January market. So those comments are, as they say here, bulls***.’

Everton are thin on the ground in attacking and wide areas, with Bernard, Alex Iwobi, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Anthony Gordon not currently offering consistent backup to Rodriguez and Richarlison.

There are also easy parallels between Isco and talented midfielder James Rodriguez, whom Ancelotti signed for a cut-price fee after the Colombian fell out of favour at Santiago Bernabeu.

Rodriguez has impressed so far with his craft and vision, plus three goals in just seven games after his summer move to Goodison Park.

Isco has strong pedigree with more than 300 appearances for Los Blancos and four Champions League titles and could link up nicely with his former team-mate.

However Ancelotti, 61, insisted the Toffees haven’t even begun thinking about potential transfers for the upcoming window, let alone identifying any specific players.

After a bright start Everton have lost their last three Premier League games and are winless in four, a drop-off which has coincided with Rodriguez failing to reproduce his sparkling early-season form.

Speaking about Rodriguez’ recent dip in performances, Ancelotti added: ‘James Rodriguez started very well. It is true after playing against Liverpool he had problems because he had a blow and difficulty in recovering.

‘He played a game where he had not trained well [against Southampton] and performance has dropped for this reason.’
