The Foxes owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha tragically lost his life when his helicopter crashed as it left the Leicester stadium following their 1-1 draw with West Ham last October.

A failure in the steering mechanism was found to be at fault for the accident where the helicopter hurtled to ground in the club carpark.

Rodgers has now been named as the new Leicester coach following Claude Puel’s dismissal last weekend.

During news that he was set to takeover, some fans tweeted vile comments.

One tweeted: “Send Brendan Rodgers to Leicester in a helicopter if he chooses to go.”

Another wrote: “Hopefully Brendan Rodgers gets a shot of the helicopter at Leicester.”

There was a stream of similar comments like: “Genuinely hope Rodgers crashes on the Leicester helicopter the snake b******!”

Many fans, though, have also come together to condemn the extreme trolling.

“I can’t believe I have seen people mocking the Leicester City helicopter tragedy and Brendan Rodgers,” wrote a supporter.

“I get that people are unhappy but to wish death on someone is just disgusting!!!”

Many others similarly called the behaviour “disgusting” and “disgraceful”.

Another tweeted: “Anyone who tries to use the helicopter crash at Leicester City in regards to Brendan Rodgers today is a sick f***.

“No need for that at all.”

Rodgers oversaw a period of dominance by Celtic in Scotland and they are oncourse to win the Scottish Premiership again despite a resurgent Rangers under Steven Gerrard.

Neil Lennon has been announced as the interim Celtic boss where he was in charge from 2010 until 2014.
