Chris Evans reveals he wants to abseil down the Shard for charity on the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show after a free-climber was spotted scaling the London landmark

DAREDEVIL Chris Evans wants to abseil down the Shard for charity after being inspired by a free-climber on the London landmark.

The star made the comment on his Virgin Media Breakfast Show after watching George King, 19, brave the hair-raising feat of climbing the 310m skyscraper at London Bridge.

George King inspired the radio host to do a climb of his own

Police were called to the urban climber’s stunt, but did not arrest him.

In a video posted on Tuesday of his climb, he said: “I was thirteen and on a school trip when I first laid eyes on The Shard.

“I felt an immediate passion to climb it – the same type of passion I want the world to feel.”

However, the climber resisted the label ‘daredevil’, adding: “I’ve always found that these names come from those who are ignorant or misunderstood about what I really do and why.

Chris joked they should dress up for the challenge

Chris revealed that he would like to do the stunt on the Friday before the Tory leadership election with one team dressed in Jeremy Hunt masks and another team in Boris Johnson mask.

“It could be the descent into chaos that is the British Government,” he joked.

Earlier this week, the 53-year-old ate a locust live on the show – and revealed it tasted like pork scratchings.

The radio DJ was joined by food experimenter Stefan Gates, also known as Gastronaut, who brought along locusts to the studio, as well as a freeze dried one for the host to try.

Very excited at the prospect, he said: “I have always wanted to do this. This is proper Ant and Dec stuff.”

He then proceeded to chomp down on it, creating quite a racket for those listening at home.
