CONCERNS have grown for Italian cyclist Alessandro De Marchi after he crashed and lay face down on the curb at the Tour de France.

The CCC rider, 33, had blood pouring from his forehead when several highly concerned supporters stood on the roadside attempting to help.

De Marchi crashed near a set of spectators who were immediately alarmed about his wellbeing

An ambulance soon arrived to take him away on a stretcher, meaning De Marchi abandoned the Tour on stage nine in the French town of Chavanne.
