The billionaire, who had powerful friends including Bill Clinton, was found dead in his cell on Saturday – days after being taken off suicide watch.

Unsubstantiated speculation is mounting that Epstein, 66, was attacked so he could not go on trial for allegedly running a global child sex ring.
One conspiracy theorist scrawled “XOXO Hillary + Bill” on the pavement outside Epstein’s $77million (£64million) Upper East Side townhouse.
The sign-off ‘XOXO’, meaning hugs and kisses, was popularised in the fictional TV show Gossip Girl which was set in the same area.
The ludicrous message came as the hashtag #ClintonBodyCount started trending on Twitter.
This phrase originated in 1993 with lawyer Linda Thompson, who compiled a list of 34 people connected to the Clintons who had passed away, according to Snopes.
She published the list using the headline “The Clinton Body Count: Coincidence or the Kiss of Death?”
Thompson admitted there is “no direct evidence” that the Clintons were responsible for any of the deaths.
US President Donald Trump has fuelled the speculation by retweeting a conspiracy theory from actor Terrence K. Williams.
In the tweet, Terrence wrote: “Died of SUICIDE on 24/7 SUICIDE WATCH? Yeah right! How does that happen?
“Jeffrey Epstein had information on Bill Clinton & now he’s dead I see #TrumpBodyCount trending but we know who did this!
“RT if you’re not Surprised.
“#EpsteinSuicide #ClintonBodyCount #ClintonCrimeFamily.”
CLINTON’S TRIPS ON EPSTEIN’S PLANE
Former president Clinton has previously claimed he knew nothing about the crimes Epstein was recently charged with in New York.
His office admitted Clinton had taken a total of four trips on Epstein’s private plane: one to Europe, one to Asia, and two to Africa.
But logs obtained by Fox News appear to show the former president took at least 26 trips aboard Epstein’s Boeing 727 from 2001 to 2003.
The aircraft was grimly nicknamed the “Lolita Express”.
Even some officials are questioning how Epstein could have killed himself in a highly secured part of the jail set aside for high-profile inmates.
TAKEN OFF SUICIDE WATCH
Financier Epstein had been placed on suicide watch following an incident just over two weeks ago in which he was discovered with bruises on his neck.
But he was taken off of suicide watch at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan at the end of July, according to AP.
Less than 24 hours before his death, a Manhattan court released a 1,200-page dossier detailing lurid abuse allegations against him.
The explosive papers named some of the world’s elite leaders and politicians, including ex-New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and financier Glenn Dubin.
WAS THERE A ‘CRIMINAL ACT’?
Legal sources insisted that Epstein’s death does not stop investigators probing any co-conspirators or anyone who covered up crimes he committed.
Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida suggested Epstein’s death may have been a “criminal act” when he called on officials to explain what happened at the New York jail.
“The Federal Bureau of Prisons must provide answers on what systemic failures of the MCC Manhattan or criminal acts allowed this coward to deny justice to his victims,” he said in a statement.
Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, now an attorney for President Donald Trump, tweeted out several questions about Epstein’s death Saturday afternoon.
“Who was watching? What does camera show?… Follow the motives,” tweeted Giuliani, now an attorney for President Donald Trump.
Elsewhere online there was unsubstantiated speculation that Epstein’s death wasn’t a suicide, or indeed that his death was faked.
GLOBAL SEX TRAFFICKING RING
Epstein, 66, had been denied bail and faced up to 45 years behind bars on federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges unsealed last month.
He had pleaded not guilty and was awaiting trial on accusations of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls.
His case had already prompted online rumours and conspiracy theories given past friendships with prominent men including Trump and former President Clinton.
The 2008 deal in Florida that allowed him to plead to soliciting a minor for prostitution to avoid more serious charges also sparked serious questions.
The FBI and the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General will investigate the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death, Attorney General William Barr said.

“Mr Epstein’s death raises serious questions that must be answered,” Barr said in a statement.
Epstein’s suicide was likely recorded by jail cameras, said Preet Bharara, the former federal prosecutor in Manhattan.
“One hopes it is complete, conclusive, and secured,” he tweeted.
