CORRIE’S Emma is devastated to discover her dad has stomach cancer – and mum Fiona is refusing to visit him.
As the week kicks off, Emma agrees to babysit Joseph for Gemma Winter instead of going to visit her dad, who’s sick in hospital.
Later, Emma’s frustrated when she’s roped in to looking after Liam Connor for flatmate Maria as well.
When she eventually gets to the hospital to see her dad, she returns in a state of shock and tells Maria that he’s been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
Maria does her best to comfort Emma, who is desperately worried about her dad.
She reveals to her best friend that her mum – who lives in Australia – has refused to come back and visit her dad, even though he’s clearly very sick.
Viewers will have to wait and see if the bubbly hairdresser will be able to convince her mum to come back to Weatherfield and support her.
The Sun Online revealed last month that Emma’s dad would die in upcoming episodes leading to her mum’s return.
And Steve McDonald will be left in a state of shock when he discovers Emma’s mum is his ex, Fiona Middleton – played by returning actress Angela Griffin.
Alexandra Mardell, 26, who plays Emma, has become a favourite on the soap since her arrival last year.
Although she’s been seen as a fun character, viewers will now see a different side to her as she comes to terms with the death of the man she calls dad.
A TV source exclusively told us: “Emma hasn’t mentioned her family much since arriving on the cobbles but she does love them.
“She’s going to be completely devastated by the sudden death of her dad. She was the apple of his eye and she worshipped him.
“It’s going to be really tough for her. Especially when her mum Fiona tells her the heartbreaking news.

The hairdresser will decide she can’t stay on the cobbles after she discovers the man who raised her isn’t her father.
And in another blow, she discovers her biological father is on her doorstep and wants nothing to do with her.
Filming pictures have revealed the moment Emma flees Weatherfield via train to start a new life elsewhere.
However, as she tries to leave it looks like her new half-sister Amy desperately battles to find her with the help of her mum Tracy and friend Maria Connor.
But will they make it in time to stop Emma before she leaves forever?
