She is fronting a hard-hitting documentary series that will expose “romance frauds”.
Kym, 43, who plays Michelle Connor in the soap, will front up crooks in new BBC consumer rights show For Love Or Money.
She will expose online dating scams where lonely singles are conned out of fortunes.
Kym, who became a gran earlier this year, says the investigation struck a chord with her.
The former singer once had her identity stolen by a criminal who almost destroyed her life.
She said: “This series has been a real eye-opener. I discovered that my identity had been stolen so a scammer could use it. I was horrified. It’s such an awful crime and its long-lasting effects are emotional and financial.
“I feel really passionately that this series is going to stop people in their tracks and really analyse who they are talking to online.”
A BBC spokesman said the show will “expose sophisticated techniques fraudsters use to pull at an individual’s heartstrings so they can empty their bank balance.”
He added: “They will find out how the criminals manage to appear so convincing… and sometimes even make contact with the crooks themselves.”
