Cristiano Ronaldo fails to make Serie A’s best XI after worst goal-scoring record in a DECADE in debut Juventus season

CRISTIANO RONALDO has failed to break into the 2018-19 Serie A Team of the Year after his worst goal-scoring record in a DECADE.

In his debut Juventus season in Italy following his £99million move last summer, the former Real Madrid man managed just 28 goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of the Serie A Team of the Year

That’s a far cry from Ronaldo‘s best-ever total of 61 strikes for Los Blancos in the 2014-15 campaign.

Now, his comparatively disappointing season has seen him miss out on the Italian top-flight’s Team of the Year.

Goal-machine Duvan Zapata is joined by Josip Ilicic and Dries Mertens in the attacking spots instead.

In fact, despite winning their eighth Serie A crown in a row only TWO Juventus players made the list – right-back Joao Cancelo and midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

Inter Milan’s Samir Handanovic took the goalkeeper’s spot, with Napoli’s sought-after Kalidou Koulibaly in the heart of defence.

Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi joins the Senegal star at centre-back with ex-Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov on the left.

Napoli star Fabian Ruiz and Papu Gomez – one of three Atalanta players in the team – join Pjanic in the midfield trio.

But five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo, 34, will still be disappointed to miss out on the team.

Cristiano Ronaldo last ten seasons goals

2009-10: 33

2010-11: 53

2011-12: 60

2012-13: 55

2013-14: 51

2014-15: 61

2015-16: 51

2016-17: 42

2017-18: 44

2018-19: 28

After all, a return of 28 goals in 43 games would be regarded as a strong season for most players – such is the high standard set by the Portuguese ace.

And it’s fair to say Real Madrid missed him in 2018-19, as they finished third in La Liga – 19 points behind Barcelona – and were knocked out in the last-16 of the Champions League by Ajax.

Another shock omission from the XI was Sampdoria ace Fabio Quagliarella – who led the league in goals scored with 26.
