Matt Penrose, from Brighton, was proud of the way he expertly guided Italian side Lazio to Serie A success, playing Football Manager on his laptop.
At the same time his fiancee Grace was dealing with a 38-hour labour.
Matt wasn’t even around to take Grace to hospital as he was on an away trip to watch a Brighton friendly against Charlton.
Grace had to drive herself to the hospital and Matt turned up later with his laptop.
He told SportBible: “She went into labour the night Brighton played Charlton in a friendly at The Valley, so she actually had to drive herself to the hospital as I was at the game.
“I got the train to Brighton to see her, and once they said he wasn’t going to be born that evening, I headed home to get some essentials, including my laptop.”
Matt revealed the length of the labour gave him time to get the Italian league victory he was after.
He continued: “Once I’d got back to the hospital and opened up the laptop she said ‘typical Matt!’ and just rolled her eyes.
“She was in labour for 38 hours so I managed to get about half a season played.
“That was my fourth season in charge of Lazio – the first three ended in a third place finish, a second place finish and finally I managed to get my hands on the Scudetto in my third season.”
Surprisingly his girlfriend wasn’t upset.
Grace said: “It helped him get through the labour.”
Matt’s tweet has so far stacked almost 3,000 likes but there are signs that he is changing his ways and finding time for his new born son.
He added: “Now that Hugo’s been born it’s tougher to find the time but I’m managing Genoa at the moment with varying levels of success so far.”
