Home security is very important to homeowners and something which may be on the minds of many as they prepare to go on holiday. It has been revealed one constituency in the UK had more burglaries than any other in 2018. Research carried out by www.Hilarys.co.uk reviewed 13 constituencies in the UK to reveal there were a shocking 248,695 burglaries reported last year. Over a quarter of these reported burglaries came from the Greater Manchester area.
Number of burglaries in each consistency in 2018
1. Greater Manchester – 64,550
2. Greater London (excluding the City of London) – 59,740
3. West Yorkshire – 26,313
4. West Midlands – 22,086
5. South Yorkshire – 14,096
6. Merseyside – 9,066
7. Northumbria – 9,054
8. Humberside – 5,982
9. Surrey – 5,928
10. Gwent – 3,595
Greater Manchester reported there were 64,550 burglaries in 2018 and the item which was most commonly stolen there was doors.
Across the constituency, the value of the stolen items was estimated to be worth £32,799,909.86.
However, although Greater London reported a lower number of burglaries, the value of the stolen items was higher in the area.
The value of items stolen totalled an estimated £204,285,688.90, the research revealed.
The mostly commonly stolen thing in that constituency was money.
In Merseyside, Surrey and West Yorkshire, jewellery was taken more than any other item.
Lucy Askew, a spokesperson for www.Hillarys.co.uk, said: “Home security is an important part of a happy home life; we all want to feel safe in our homes.
“It is a little bit alarming that across the UK the number of burglaries are so high, more so in some areas than others, but what is surprising is that Greater Manchester saw more burglaries than London – not what we expected at all.
“With that said, it is no surprise that the smaller constituencies, which are more likely to have tight-knit communities, have less burglaries take place in their area.”
Recently, a group of reformed former burglars revealed how they pick which homes to target and the best spots to hide valuables within a property.
