A father has been jailed for seven months for coercive behaviour towards his partner after their children began gathering evidence of abuse on their mobile phones.
Manuel Vieira described Sally Hammond as a “lazy cow” and “fat pig” when she didn’t complete household tasks and kicked her in the stomach with steel-toed boots during violent rages, it was heard.
Vieira, 35, of Barnwood, Gloucester, pleaded guilty to a charge of controlling by coercive behaviour and two assaults by beating at Gloucester crown court on Monday.
The couple’s two children were so affected by the violence they began capturing some of their father’s outbursts on their phones, the court heard.
Judge Michael Cullum told Vieira: “It’s all about you. You’ve undermined your partner’s confidence. This form of abuse is deliberate.
“There is no doubt your behaviour is coercive. It was also violent. Your children were so affected by this they started gathering their own evidence.”
Vieira was in a relationship with Ms Hammond for 17 years before she and the children left him the day after he attacked her, the court heard
Judge Cullum added: “This coercive behaviour can best be illustrated by the posts on social media in which you apologise by saying, ‘All I can say is I am sorry for what I did’, after which another post delves into abusive language and states, ‘You can’t even fit into my car’.”
