Doucoure throws Watford future into doubt by revealing his Champions League ambitions

WATFORD star Abdoulaye Doucoure has AGAIN cast shadow over his future at Vicarage Road as he has revealed his “dream” of playing Champions League football.

The Frenchman has been vocal about his intentions to leave the Hornets, claiming in January he would leave the club in the winter transfer window.

Watford ace Abdoulaye Doucoure has put potential suitors on alert after revealing his Champions League ‘dream’

Doucoure, 26, has been in fine form this season, scoring three goals, adding six assists – and becoming the key cog in Javi Gracia’s well-oiled Watford machine.

The Hornets currently sit eight in the Premier League table, with their eyes set on securing Europa League qualification this season.

But Doucoure is aiming higher than that and has made it clear he wants to cop his first France cap, start collecting medals and play on the top of European football.

He told Sky Sports: “Everyone knows my ambition. I am playing football to win titles, to play with quality players.

“At Watford I am very happy, but the most important thing for me is to be focused on my performance.

“In the summer if something happens with the club, we will see what happens.

“Playing in the Champions League is one of my dreams and a lot of the squad want to do it as well. I think I can do it in the next few years.”

It is not the first time Doucoure has hinted at a move away from Watford.

In January, he stunned the Hornets chiefs by claiming he would leave the club in the winter transfer window, courting interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Doucoure, however, has praised Gracia for the role he played in his career and the impact he has had at Vicarage Road.

He added: “I love him [Gracia] as a manager, as a person. I think everyone loves him at the club, he’s a very good manager.

“I like playing under him and I want to improve.”

The midfielder joined Watford from Rennes for £5.4million in 2016.
