As cops checked it to see if he had been texting while driving his Audi in November 2017, they found ISIS propaganda.

It gave tips on vulnerable spots to aim for when knifing people.

He had also viewed videos showing soldiers being hung and beheaded.

Adam, of Blackburn, Lancs, who said he was radicalised in his last year of university, admitted possessing documents useful for terrorism at Manchester crown court.

Jailing him for 30 months, Judge Patrick Field QC told Adam: ‘’Police found some of the extremist material you searched for and it was if the most terrible and shocking kind.

‘’You spoke with others in online chats where you demonstrated your extremist Islamist mindset.”

After the case Det Ch Supt Dominic Scally, of Counter Terrorism Policing for the North West, said: “We analysed a large amount of data to gather all of the evidence to support this case but the success of this investigation is also down to the work of officers from Lancashire Police, and it is thanks to their diligence and extensive enquiries that this prosecution was made possible.

“I hope this result shows that we are committed to tackling the threat from terrorist propaganda online and arresting and bringing to justice those people who possess or share it in any form remains a top priority.”
