THIS terrifying dashcam footage shows the moment a driver was forced to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a little girl who walked into the middle of the road.
The video, taken on Saturday, showed the driver making his way down a residential street in Okehampton in Devon at a speed of around 13mph.
A tradesman was seen crossing the road to close the back doors of his van when a young girl appeared from behind a parked car.
Facing the wrong way, she slowly followed him across the road.
At that moment, the worker dramatically stepped out in front of the car with his arm outstretched to signal at the driver to stop.
Luckily the driver slammed on the brakes and the tradesman was able to pick up the girl and carry her to safety.
The driver, who recorded the footage, said: “[The] male crossed the road first and presumably didn’t expect the child to follow or was unaware of my vehicle.
“[I] just stopped in time, [it] was closer than it looked with the wide angle lens on the dash-cam.
“[It] shook me up for a good few minutes afterwards thinking what could have been if I’d been going faster or the girl had not appeared until last second.”
