A DRUNK passenger who wet himself after downing vodka on a Thomas Cook flight has been jailed.

“Out of control” James Petford, 39, screamed in the face of another passenger during the boozy rampage on board the jet from Birmingham to Egypt.

A court heard he had to be separated from his violent partner Margaret McGuigan, 38, and travellers feared they’d “punch out the glass”.

A member of cabin crew had to “physically hold” the vomit and urine-soaked airconditioning engineer in his seat as he hurled abuse at others during the flight.

The lurid pair inflicted 4 and a half hours of in-flight hell on other passengers by aggressively abusing staff and others on a May 15 Thomas Cook flight from Birmingham to Egypt.

The incidents started when a passenger reported that Petford was being hit by McGuigan and the pair were asked to separate.

FLIGHT FROM HELL

They then became abusive, with McGuigan shouting that she was “not f*****g moving”, but Petford eventually went to the back of the plane.

At that stage a cabin crew member discovered a litre bottle of vodka which was confiscated.

Ros Butler, who was prosecuting during the early stages of the trial, said: “He was seen to roll a cigarette and light it but it was taken off him by staff and extinguished in a glass of water.

“Staff saw he had a bottle of Captain Morgan’s rum in his bag and then it was noticed that he had soiled himself and had also been sick all over the seat where he had been sitting.

“Despite this he continued to be abusive and he had to be restrained in order to put his seatbelt on to keep him in his seat.”

Petford was so “extremely drunk” at this point that he was unable to prevent the crew member from taking what was left of an additional bottle of rum from his bag that was found as they took the cigarette off him.

‘TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL’

He also got up to use the toilet and when a man came out of the cubicle he “screamed in his face.”

Butler continued: “Miss McGuigan continued to swear loudly and staff tried to calm her down. She continually stood up despite the seatbelt sign being on.”

As the flight was coming into land Petford’s “nervous flyer” girlfriend McGuigan had refused to sit down, causing yet more of a headache for everyone onboard.

The court had previously heard that on landing the duo had another argument with each other but were separated.

Petford had to be escorted by a security officer as he was struggling to walk due to intoxication.

In a statement one of the crew said: “I had to physically hold him in his seat.

WORST PASSENGER EVER

“He is easily the most disruptive passenger I have had to deal with”.

The court heard the duo’s behaviour was so frightening one nervous passenger who had not flown since 9/11 was certain that the couple would damage a window.

While another said: “It would have been a horrible way to start your holidays. Their behaviour was totally out of control.”

The couple was immediately banned from their return flight with the airline.

Petford was sent down for 8 months at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, while McGuigan was given a 12-month community order, 60 hours community service and ordered to pay £340 in costs.

Thomas Cook has since collapsed, with thousands of holidaymakers left stranded.
