Dustmen slammed for hurling family’s entire wheelie bin into truck’s crusher before performing ‘strongman’ celebration

DUSTMEN have been slammed for hurling a family’s wheelie bin into their truck’s crusher.

One was caught on camera lifting and throwing the full container then performing a “strongman” celebration with a pal.

Craig Elrick, 42, noticed his bin was missing before spotting the incident on his CCTV — with the pair dancing on the spot and punching the air.

Electrician Craig said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was such a weird thing to do. I’ve no idea why they did it. I’ve never had any problems with them or the council.

“You can clearly see it’s my bin because my house number is on it. Afterwards two of them started punching the air in celebration. I must admit I laughed as it was so ridiculous.

“But I had to complain because we pay for bins.”

The dad of two added: “I can’t believe a council with strict rules on recycling plastic would throw it into a waste lorry. We’d get fined if we tried to throw a lump of plastic into landfill.”

CCTV in Craig’s garden filmed the dustmen at 9am on July 18.

An official at Corby Borough Council, Northants, told him throwing away bins was not normal practice and crews “should not be doing this”.

The council says the crew removed it because Craig had two. He denies it and the council replaced the bin the next day.
