IT was an emotional roller coaster on tonight’s Emmerdale when Debbie Dingle bid farewell to mum Charity, as she left the village for a fresh start in Scotland.
It was a double whammy for fans, as in real life actress Charley Webb has left to enjoy her maternity leave after welcoming a new baby.
In tonight’s episode Charity (Emma Atkins) was seen struggling to cope with saying goodbye to her daughter, and at first was being hostile towards and refusing to bid her farewell.
Charity has been burying her head in the sand and trying every thing she can to talk Debbie out of going – especially when Faith (Sally Dexter) dug her heels and refused to leave the cottage that Charity thought she’d be sharing with just Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) and the kids.
As Charity waged war on Faith, determined to get her to move out, Debbie pointed out that it was her last night with Sarah and she didn’t want it ruined.
Tonight, Charity was forced to face facts and moments before Debbie was about to drive off to Scotland, Charity was seen running down the road trying to stop her.
The two women then had a heart-to-heart with Debbie saying: “We’ve been apart before.”
Charity then replied: “But this time I’m worried I might lose you forever. So Debs, I’m asking you, please don’t go.”
The show then went to its commercial break and when it returned Debbie told Charity that she wanted to go, but she understood why she didn’t want her to go.
Speaking frankly Debbie said: “I can’t say if I will be back, otherwise there would be be point going if I could.”
After an emotional goodbye, Debbie left the village with Charity saying: “Debs, you take care of yourself, ok.”
With Debbie saying: “I’ll try.”
And with that she was off, leaving her heartbroken mum on the side of the road.
Fans were left in bits at this emotional goodbye, with one tweeting: “I hope Debbie comes back (followed by a crying emoji).”
While another one said: “AWW There managed to get a goodbye scene in between Debbie and Charity (followed by crying emojis).”
This one commented: “Okay that Charity and Debbie scene got me, not gonna lie (follwoed by a crying emoji.”
The scenes were obviously shot a while ago, as Charley welcomed her third baby at the end of last month with husband Matthew Wolfenden.
The actress took to Twitter to share the happy news on July 29.
