Epsom Ladies Day at the 2019 Investec Derby Festival at Epsom Racecourse has begun, and the women in attendance have made sure all eyes are on them in a series of eye-catching hats. Wide-brimmed hats seemed to be the most popular, with a selection of huge adornments seen on various women. Everything from flowers to butterflies decorated a selection of the finest designs. And it seems red tones were popular, with many women choosing to step out in pinks, oranges and red dresses.
One trio of women all chose the colourscheme, posing together to make sure their co-ordination was caught on camera.
While the sun is not shining, temperatures are high, allowing racegoers to leave their cardigans and cover-ups at home.
And despite having to stand on grass, most of the women seen opted for sky-high heels to complement their glamorous attire.
Epsom is one of the most popular races in the summer calendar, with the Queen attending last year alongside a host of celebrities.
Today, Vogue Williams – who has royal connections herself as she is married to Spencer Matthews, brother of James Matthews, husband of Pippa Middleton, who is the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister – sported an unusual gold animal print knitted dress with large gold headband.
While many women will be wearing their best just for themselves, several will be hoping to win the Style Awards.
Open to both men and women, the awards “seeks out to find the very best dressed racegoers in the Grandstand and Queen’s Stand enclosures”.
To enter, hopefuls must enter at the Chi Chi stand between 11am and 2pm. Finalists will be notified at 2.30pm before an award presentation at 3.25pm.
The dresscode at Epsom is more relaxed than counterparts such as Ascot.
Ladies in the Queen’s Stand Enclosure are asked to wear a fascinator or hat, but there are no rules on how much skin can be on display.
Things are even more casual in the Grandstand Enclosure, where smart denim is allowed.
