Europa League thieves nicking Arsenal and Chelsea flags from fans in Baku

Social media has been flooded with pics and videos of stolen flags ahead of the Europa League final on Wednesday.

Supporters have made a torturous journey to Azerbaijan for the all-England final and it looks as though they have now had to contend with flag thieves.

One Instagram post appeared to show some fans of local team Qarabag making off with an “Essex Gooners” England flag.

The video is captioned with: “Qarabag lads ask for a photo with an Arsenal shirt then run away with it.”

One replied: “Bang out of order for the fans to travel all that way to get mugged off.”

Another wrote: “Hilarious.”

A fan commented: “Listen boys these are proper hooligans, hahaha, for God’s sake.”

The alleged antics haven’t harmed the party atmosphere in the Azerbaijan capital and many fans have gone out in fancy dress.

The decision to hold the final in Baku has received plenty of criticism over the difficulty in travelling and both clubs have struggled to sell their ticket allocation.

There are also political reasons for people being unhappy at the choice of location where there are restrictions on human rights and free speech.

Midfielder Henrik Mkhitaryan has been unable to get a visa to play in the final, due to his Armenian nationality.

Arsenal and Chelsea will take to the field knowing victory would also see them qualify for a place in next season’s Champions League.

Tensions have been high in the Chelsea camp with a confrontation between Gonzalo Higuain and David Luis in training while manager Maurizio Sarri was also seen storming off.

It was later reported that he was unhappy the team couldn’t practice free-kicks because of the watching media.
