F1 Drivers’ and Constructors’ Standings: Bottas back in front as Mercedes soar ahead after Azerbaijan

LEWIS HAMILTON is back in his Mercedes car, looking to move to within one of Michael Schumacher’s record of F1 World Championship titles.

The Brit has been crowned five times to date, sitting level with Argentina legend Juan Manuel Fangio – while his German team are eyeing sixth constructors title in a row.

Who is leading the Drivers’ Standings?

Valtteri Bottas led from the front in a magnificent opening race in Australia to claim victory and the first-ever bonus point for fastest lap.

The Finn held onto his lead, despite Lewis Hamilton winning in Bahrain – but the Brit ultimately overtook his partner-in-crime with a second victory of the season in China.

However after his win in Azerbaijan, he has regained the top spot from the Brit with just one point separating them.

Charls Leclerc is enjoying a good start to his Ferrari career, despite problems in Sakhir – while 19-year-old Lando Norris is easily the best rookie on the circuit with eight points already to his name.

Who is leading the Constructors’ Standings?

Mercedes are bidding for a sixth title in a row, a feat that only Ferrari have completed so far, reigning supreme between 1999 and 2004 with Michael Schumacher at the helm.

And they have started the season off superbly, with three one-two finishes to open 67-point lead after just three races.

Ferrari will need something special to catch up while Max Verstappen has taken the lion’s share of Red Bull’s total.

With Spain up next, only Williams have yet to record a point with George Russell and Robert Kubica yet to break into the top ten so far.
