This week a new Fast and Furious spin-off is released in Hobbs and Shaw. The Rock and Jason Statham’s characters were introduced in previous instalments of the action franchise. However, the pair have taken a break after The Fate of the Furious to release their own movie. Now as Hobbs and Shaw is about to hit cinemas, Vin Diesel has already begun shooting Fast and Furious 9 – which saw a terrible stunt accident last week – but will Dwayne Johnson and Statham be back?
Well by the sounds of it Hobbs and Shaw will not be in Fast and Furious 9.
Speaking with MTV News in January, The Rock said: “The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand.
“As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting.”
Nevertheless, there’s hope for Fast and Furious 10, the last film in the main string of films, set for release in 2021.
Johnson added: “But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road.
“You never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is, there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”
This “unfinished business” may be more real than fans expected, with Diesel and Johnson not having seen eye to eye during filming on The Fate of the Furious.
It’s speculated that this is why The Rock went off and made Hobbs and Shaw on the side.
Back in 2016, The Rock referred to unnamed Fast and Furious 8 co-stars as “chicken sh** candy asses”
Johnson has since clarified he was talking about Diesel, telling Rolling Stone: “Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer.
“And what I came to realise is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.”
Hobbs and Shaw is released in UK cinemas tomorrow, while Fast and Furious 9 arrives on May 22, 2020.
