Florida Sen. Rick Scott tests positive for COVID-19

Florida Sen. Rick Scott has tested positive for COVID-19, he said Friday, as he advised Americans to “wear a mask.”

The GOP lawmaker said he was diagnosed with the bug Friday morning after several negative tests.

“I’m feeling good & experiencing very mild symptoms,” he tweeted. “I’ll be working from home until it’s safe for me to return to DC. I remind everyone to be careful & do the right things to protect yourselves & others.”

Scott, 67, also issued a reminder to others.

“Wear a mask. Socially distance. Quarantine if you come in contact with someone positive like I did,” he said. “We will beat this together, but we all must be responsible. I want to thank all the incredible health care workers who are working around the clock to care for patients.”

Scott is the latest senator to come down with coronavirus. On Tuesday, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley announced his own diagnosis. The 87-year-old is the oldest Republican senator.

Meanwhile, Rep. Don Young of Alaska, also 87 — the oldest member of Congress — tested positive last week.
