The plane plummeted into the mountain range before bursting into flames. Three people are believed to have died in the crash.
The plane crashed shortly before 10.30am local time.
A firefighter from CODIS (an operational fire and rescue centre) in Isère said: “A plane crashed at Pas de la Coche around 10:28 am.”
Officials have not yet confirmed the number of possible victims, but locals report three people died in the incident.
Local newspaper ‘Le Dauphiné Libéré’ said: “Shepherds and hikers would have seen a small tourist plane crash into the mountain before catching fire.”
