A HOMEOWNER has captured the terrifying moment a 10ft snake lurked on power lines right outside his neighbour’s window.

The terrifying footage shows the reptile wrapping its body around the wires and appearing to stretch out across two rooms.

It uses the horizontal power lines to travel along the narrow alleyway in Qidong, China.

The snake was later identified as a beauty rat snake, which is known for its climbing abilities.

A snake-catcher eventually managed to remove the creature after it crawled back to the ground.

He then handed it over to forestry officials for release.

Huang Feng, a reptile expert with the Hengyang Zoo, told members of the public that the snake is “nothing to worry about” despite the animal’s large size.

Mr Feng said the rat snake – which feasts on rodents as well as bats and birds thanks to its climbing abilities – is a nonvenomous species.

He urged people who come across them to not startle the animal and to instead allow forestry officials to handle it instead.

The beauty rat snake, which also goes by names such as the cave racer or simply the beauty snake, is believed to have been fully grown at nearing 10 feet.

The species lives 15 to 25 years.

It comes amid a rising number of snake sightings in the UK after the hot weather in recent weeks.

A venomous adder was filmed lurking on a Cornish beach just a few feet away from children and dogs earlier this month.
