“Wild” Liam Chambers went on the rampage causing £1,300 of damage after downing the energy drink.

The 28-year-old broke six windows and attacked two patrol cars. Officers went outside and found him snarling and brandishing the hammer.

Emma Heath-Tilford, prosecuting, told Derbyshire JPs Chambers launched his attack on the police station in Pear Tree, Derby, last month.

She said officers “came face-to-face with this defendant who was brandishing a hammer above his head”.

She added: “He was asked what he was doing and replied: ‘Come on then’ and started walking towards them.”

Chambers, from Derby, was arrested and later pleaded guilty to criminal damage and possessing an offensive weapon.

Andy Cash, defending, said: “This incident was not down to him consuming too much alcohol but a combination of the medicine he was on to help him stop smoking and the very large quantity of Red Bull caffeine drink which took him to a heightened state of almost paranoia.”

Chambers was given a 26-week suspended jail sentence and told to pay £1,361 compensation.
