I’m officially sick of dry shampoo leaving unsightly powdery residue on my roots – yet nothing else quite gives my hair that texture and grit I love… until now.

Redken Dry Shampoo Paste, £19.55, works as a dry shampoo/styling paste hybrid, so you can have roots that look clean without compromising on texture. Simply warm a coin-sized dollop between your hands, swipe through your locks from roots to mid-lengths, et voilà – lifted roots with a just-washed, fresh look. Genius.

An oily T-zone has been the bane of my life for as long as I can remember, but I also struggle with hydrating the dry, lacklustre skin on the rest of my face. Eugh.

Brazilian purple clay helps draw out impurities and exfoliate, while blackcurrant seed oil and Nordic bilberry extract work to moisturise and balance the rest of the complexion.

Plus, the black tea extract is full of purifying antioxidants that will nip those pesky blemishes in the bud, pronto.

Ask Beauty Editor Lauren

I’ve been struggling with hormonal breakouts and the spots never seem to come to a head – they just linger under my skin. I’ve been using salicylic acid to treat them, but it doesn’t seem to be working. What do you recommend? Shelley, Pembrokshire

I suffer from the same problem and it can get really frustrating.

But recently, I had a treatment with facialist to the stars Michaella Bolder, and told her about my monthly spots.

To my surprise, she advised me to stop using salicylic acid as it doesn’t do much for under-the-skin breakouts, and go for products containing benzoyl peroxide instead.

It’s a key component in Acnecide 5% Gel, £9.99, and works by attacking acne-causing bacteria.

It’s available from chemists nationwide, though if you’re shopping online you’ll need to fill out a questionnaire as it’s a pharmacy-only medicine.

Failing that, I swear by Kate Somerville EradiKate Blemish Spot Treatment, £22, which contains sulphur to eliminate blemishes from under the skin.
