Honda has confirmed a huge new future for its upcoming ‘e’ electric car ahead of the launch later this year. The carmaker has stated that the Side Camera Mirror System of the new Honda e urban electric vehicle will be available as standard when the car enters production. It was a feature first seen on the concept car which has now become a confirmed feature for the new vehicles. A system like this is not online high tech buy will also provide styling benefits as well as aerodynamics.

The side view mirrors provide live images to six-inch screens located on either side of the dashboard screen.

These cameras do not extend past the wheel arches of the vehicle and help to not spoil the uninterrupted curves of the body which has flush door handles.

Using cameras instead of side mirrors can reduce aerodynamic drag by around 90 per cent compared to conventional door mirrors – which is around 3.8 per cent for the entire car.

Wind noise is also reached and they have been designed in such a way to prevent water droplets from settling on the lenses.

There are two views – ‘normal view’ and ‘wide view’ – which extend the field of vision further than with conventional side mirrors and reducing blind spots by around 10 per cent in normal view and approximately 50 per cent in wide view.

The car was made available to order last week with customers able to put down an £800 refundable deposit for the vehicle.

Pricing for the vehicle is expected to be revealed later this year and deliveries for the vehicle are expected in 2020.

Five colour options for the vehicle have been made available for the vehicle which are Platinum White Metallic, Crystal Blue Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic and Charge Yellow.

On single charge the car will produce around 125-miles on a single charge.

The rear-wheel drive will also be able to charge from zero to 80 per cent in just 30-minutes when attached to a fast charger.
