The pair set up the Heads Together mental health charity initiative in 2016. Prince Harry was also involved in the setting of the project. Kate has been noted for her involvement with women and children’s charities, whilst William himself has undertaken projects to promote mental health support.
On June 2, the Heads Together Instagram account posted: “Heads Together stands with the black community.
“Today and every day.
“This is a reminder to all that your mental health matters, and our charity partners are there for you if you need support.
“If you or someone you know is feeling distressed, overwhelmed, anxious or panicked, talking can help.
The aim was to pause and reflect following the death of George Floyd in police custody in the US.
Major record labels Universal, Sony and Warner Music and notable celebrities posted a black square on social media and went quiet.
Rihanna said her beauty label would not conduct any business on the day.
ITV’s This Morning went dark for a few minutes and showed a black screen with the words “Black Lives Matter”.
The creators of the initiative said it was “a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community” and “an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change”.
They also added: “The music industry is a multi-billion dollar industry.
“An industry that has profited predominantly from black art.
“Our mission is to hold the industry at large, including major corporations and their partners who benefit from the efforts, struggles and successes of black people accountable.”
The Express Instagram page also posted a black square in support of the initiative on Instagram.
