MEGHAN Markle’s baby shower reportedly cost £330,000 – making it more of a downpour.
The Duchess of Sussex, 37, jetted to New York last week for the bash, which is said to have featured elaborately iced biscuits in the shape of storks, a flower-arranging class and a harpist.
Luckily there are far cheaper ways to celebrate an impending birth. These are our top tips.
- Fake the flowers: As well as the flower-arranging lesson for her A-list pals, huge bouquets of blooms were provided for Meghan’s do. But homemade paper flowers can look just as good.
Megan Fife, of Ashleighmoneysaver.co.uk, says: “Make an Instagram-ready flower wall by using tissue paper to fashion rose shapes. Then glue the “roses” on to a large cardboard background.”
The duchess had platters of desserts in the penthouse suite where she held her party. Megan says: “Get crafty with your own cupcakes and food colouring. Make buttercream and add swirls of colouring to match your theme.”
- Buy bargain booze: Mums-to-be may be nil-by-mouth when it comes to alcohol but guests will enjoy a tipple (or two).
Save on fancy cocktails or bar tabs by picking up Mrs Cuthbert’s Gin liqueurs from B&M, where they cost just £9.99 (RRP, £13.99). Mix with either tonic or prosecco.
- Have a high tea: Party planner Jenny Hodges says: “You can pick up a white cotton tablecloth in super-markets for under £5. Then visit a charity shop to pick up a mix of china.
“For table decor, jam jars with gypsophila and a single rose can really have a impact.”
- Use cash back: Abigail Yearley, of TopCashback.co.uk, said: “Personalised decorations, cakes, and favours can hike costs. To reduce costs when shopping at places like Etsy, eBay and Amazon you can buy through a cashback website. TopCashback members can earn up to 10.5 per cent back on stuff needed for a baby shower.”
