An innocent British man was arrested after he let a pedophile neighbor use his internet — and the creep downloaded images of young boys, according to a report.
Robert Mawby, 60, convinced his neighbor in Leicester, Paterson Close, to hand over his wi-fi password so he could use the internet, according to the Leicester Mercury.
But then Mawby allegedly used his access to download 489 explicit photos and videos between March and August, including disturbing images of children, the paper reported.
Police traced the downloaded material to Close’s address in mid-August — and hauled the innocent man to jail.
He was released a few days later on August 21 when Mawby, who served time for downloading child abuse images 10 years ago, admitted to downloading the images himself, the paper reported.
Mawby was charged with breaching a sexual harm prevention order that a judge handed down after the first crime, which limited his access to the internet. He was also charged with making indecent images.
But at a sentencing hearing this week, Judge Robert Brown released Mawby from jail and gave him a community order to get treatment for his “addiction.”
“You’re 60, you need treatment and [you] didn’t get it last time,” Brown said.
“You’ve pleaded guilty to all these matters and you’ve exonerated your neighbor and you’re entitled to credit for that.”
Mawby, who was given a three-year community order with 90 days of group work and a further 30 days of working with probation officials, told the court he feared returning home — and facing the possible wrath of his neighbor.
“I was looking to go into a probation hostel because of my neighbor,” he said.
