Irritated Jamal Adams takes another contract shot at Jets

Jamal Adams is growing more irritated waiting for the Jets to put their money where their mouth is.

In his latest show of frustration, Adams described the Jets as “a lot of talk no action” when it comes to his contract negotiation.

Replying to a Friday Bleacher Report post on Instagram that defensive end Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns are in talks for a mega contract extension, Adams wrote, “As they should. Well deserved MG I can’t even get my first proposal that they said they would send over in January… I was called selfish tho! Lol.”

The 24-year-old Adams has sometimes been cast as putting his own best interests above the team’s ever since he lashed out at hearing his name in trade talks last October.

Garrett was the first pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, five spots ahead of Adams.

Christian McCaffrey is the only player from the draft class to sign an extension – this is the first offseason those players are eligible – but running backs are on an expedited clock because of their shorter career spans.

Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes could soon receive big money as teams lock up young quarterbacks.

Garrett’s situation is the most applicable to Adams. Both defensive stars were Pro Bowlers and Second-Team All-Pros in 2018, but Adams followed up with another Pro Bowl selection and First-Team All-Pro in 2019 while Garrett finished the season on NFL suspension.

Adams is the only safety taken in the top 10 picks of a draft since 2011. He received a $14.3 million signing bonus but his 2020 salary is set to be just $825,000 before jumping to $9.86 million on a team-exercised option in 2021.
