JACK RODWELL is on the verge of completing a shock move to Serie A giants Roma.
The free agent is set to land in Italy to complete a medical and help ease the burden of their injury crisis in midfield.
Rodwell, 28, was once tipped as the country’s brightest talents but his career failed to take off after leaving Everton in 2012.
He has been without a club since leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season.
But he could be handed an extraordinary career lifeline with Roma who sit sixth in the league after eight matches.
The club’s Sporting Director, Gianluca Petrachi, knows Rodwell well as does left-back Aleksandr Kolarov from their time together at Manchester City.
Roma currently have nine players sidelined with injury or illness including five midfielders.

Rodwell is one of three players that the club are monitoring closely and they are attracted by his top flight experience.
His move will be a short-term deal until the end of the season and a decision is likely to be made before the weekend.
He featured 21 times in the league for Blackburn last campaign and has three England caps to his name.
