Joe Biden juices up his campaign with Lizzo and Cher hitting the trail in target states of Michigan and Arizona and must-hold state of Nevada
- Democrat Joe Biden’s campaign has enlisted Lizzo and Cher to campaign for the Democratic ticket this weekend
- Lizzo will headline two campaign events in the Detroit area on Friday
- Cher will then head to Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday and Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday
Democrat Joe Biden is juicing up his campaign starting Friday by deploying the singer Lizzo to Detroit Michigan for several events.
Then on Saturday and Sunday, Cher will head to Las Vegas, Nevada and then Phoenix, Arizona on behalf of the Democratic ticket.
Musicians have long been fixtures on the campaign trail, but with the coronavirus pandemic moving most political events – at least on the Democratic side – online, the back-to-back celebrity appearances stand out.

Lizzo is billed to participate in a canvass launch in Detroit and will then host a ‘early voting conversation’ in Harper Woods, which is a suburb.
The ‘Juice’ and ‘Truth Hurts’ songstress was born in Detroit before moving to Houston at age 10.
Lizzo indicated she would be politically active in the run-up to the November 3 presidential election when she sported Christian Siriano’s black and white ‘Vote’ dress to the Billboard Music Awards last week.
‘There’s power in who you are [and] there’s power in your voice,’ she said then. ‘So whether it’s through music, protest, or your right to vote, use your power, use your voice, and refuse to be suppressed.’
Cher preempted the Biden-Harris campaign’s announcement she would be hitting the campaign trail with a Wednesday night tweet.
‘Going Nevada & Arizona to speak on behalf of BIDEN HARRIS,’ the singer wrote.
The tweet got more than 52,000 likes.
In the past, Cher has been a resident artist in Las Vegas.
The campaign did not provide additional details.
Most of the in-person events held by Biden, his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris and their surrogates have been drive-in-style, like the speech former President Barack Obama delivered in the parking lot of the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia Wednesday night.
Cher will be in Nevada and Arizona just days after President Donald Trump held rallies in Carson City, and then Prescott and Tucson.
On the same three-day trip, Trump also held a rally Saturday in Muskegon, Michigan.
Rocker Ted Nugent made an appearance during that event.
In 2016, Democrat Hillary Clinton won Nevada over Trump, but the blue wall of Michigan, Wisconsin and also Pennsylvania crumbled, giving the president the Electoral College numbers he needed.
Arizona, which went for Trump in 2016, looks like a flippable state to Democrats – and there’s a carefully watched Senate race between Republican Sen. Martha McSally, who was appointed by Trump to fill the seat, and Democrat Mark Kelly, the husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a survivor of the 2011 Tucson shooting.
