Joe Cole has piled praise onto Phil Foden after he came off the bench to salvage a point for Manchester City.

The 20-year-old came on to replace the injured Sergio Aguero and took just six minutes to score an equaliser for the visitors.

It was the Englishman’s second goal of the season so far and he has been one of City’s best performers on the field despite issues with England off it.

BT Sport pundit Joe Cole praised the youngster claiming he’s ‘almost the finished article’

After the match BT Sport pundit Cole said Foden changed the game.

‘You can see he’s got a hunger to score and it was an outstanding goal,’ he told presenter Jake Humphrey.

‘He looked like the best player when he came on the pitch. You look at the amount of money spent on some of the players out there and that’s a young Englishman.

‘He’s an outstanding talent and after today Pep (Guardiola) will look at him with a different light because he changed the game.

‘He’s almost the finished article. We’ve almost been waiting for him for two years. Pep’s dropped him in, took him out, dropped him back in.

‘Pep gave him a massive honour when he said he was one of the best young players he’s seen and think of the players that have played under Pep.

‘You’ve got to talk about him as a focal point of Man City and hopefully England.’

After the match Guardiola confirmed that Aguero had sustained a hamstring injury which was the reason for the substitution.

Foden is expected to have a big part to play with the absence of Aguero as well as Gabriel Jesus who is also currently out.

BT Sport pundit and former Manchester City player Joleon Lescott said: ‘There’s some massive games coming up, one against Liverpool and he will start against them. I would be very surprised if he doesn’t but he just needs to keep on performing.’

Foden has had a mixed start to the season with problems off the field when he and Mason Greenwood were sent home for inviting two girls to their hotel when away on international duty with England.

However Foden has done his talking on the field and has scored two goals in the club’s opening five games and will likely have a big part to play in their challenge for trophies this season.
