John Humphrys drops out of BBC top ten earners in wake of gender pay row

John Humphrys has fallen out of the BBC’s top ten earners list after undergoing a pay cut in the aftermath of the gender pay row.

Nicky Campbell also dropped out of the ranking after also accepting a salary reduction last year.

Broadcasters Jeremy Vine and Nick Grimshaw, who left the Radio 1 breakfast show for an 4pm-7pm slot last year, also no longer appear on the highest earners list which now features three female stars, Zoe Ball, Vanessa Feltz and Claudia Winklemen who is the BBC’s highest paid female presenter.

Ms Ball’s rise to the highest earners list comes after she took over the breakfast show on Radio 2. It is understood that Ms Ball earns a higher salary than Ms Winklemen although this will not be reflected in this year’s statistics because she took over from Chris Evans on Radio 2 late in the financial year.

One in five of the BBC’s top earners are now from a BAME background the BBC’s annual pay report due to be published this week will show.
