Jose Mourinho has demanded that Gareth Southgate explain why Raheem Sterling pulled out of England duty due to the Tottenham boss’ firm belief the winger will feature against his side tomorrow.
The two tacticians have jousted verbally in recent weeks with Mourinho left irritated by the treatment of his players on international duty due to concerns over mounting injuries.
And despite Southgate revealing his players were under pressure to manage their international workload ahead of England’s dead rubber clash with Iceland, Mourinho is keen for more answers.

Mourinho even appeared to turn on his old rival Pep Guardiola during a fiery press conference when questioning the decision behind Sterling’s absence.
He said: ‘Of course we all know that Sterling is going to play tomorrow. When Eric Dier left the national team injured in the previous month, he didn’t play two matches.
‘And Raheem is going to play tomorrow. These are the little details that I think Gareth should explain.’
Sterling had left the England squad during the break as a precaution due to a hamstring strain
But Mourinho believes that old rival Pep Guardiola will field Sterling against his team tomorrow
Mourinho was angry after Eric Dier suffered a hamstring strain last month while with England
Sterling left Southgate’s group as a precaution after a hamstring strain sparked an injury scare.
But Dier picked up a similar strain while away with England in October, a situation which infuriated Mourinho after his desire for his players to be handled with caution was made clear.
